The Conference will be held at the
Cultural Center of Cascais (RTF-
or PDF
format), a historical village nearby Lisbon within the
Estoril coast and Sintra region. It stretches from the
Atlantic Ocean and the Tagus River estuary in the South and
West and is close to Lisbon (abour 25 km) with an
international airport, and an excellent road and rail
network. It contains the most westerly point in
Europe. Cascais is a little town with charming
surroundings, beaches, and a marine. The Fishermen´s
Beach is still a traditional fishing harbour. The conference
location is nearby the centre of Cascais (5 min walking), as
well as nearby the marine with a lot of restaurants and
bars. Nearby Cascais is the Estoril Casino and its
gardens.

The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park lies
also nearby Cascais and is a tourist resort of considerable
size and the whole of it protected. The Park contains a
tremendous variety of landscapes and atmospheres. There are
sand dunes, forests, lakes, an indented coastline with high
cliffs and beaches, and the cape of Cabo da Rocha. The hills
and the surrounding area have been classified by UNESCO as a
World Heritage site both, for their cultural significance
and for their outstanding natural beauty.

The majestic Sintra Mountains in the central part of the Park cast a veil of mystery over the town which nestles on its nothern slopes. The presence of these hills causes marked contrats in climate, landscape and culture. In general, the climate is excellent and there are no extreme temperatures, but there are marked diferences between various areas, with warmer, drier weather on the southern slopes of the Sintra Mountains than elsewhere.
