Travel Information

In this page you will find information on how to get from the airport to Residencial Lar do Areeiro as well as how to then commute between the Residencial and university campus where the workshop takes place.

When you arrive at the Lisbon Airport

You can reach Residencial Lar do Areeiro by bus or by taxi.

By Bus

Exit the arrivals hall, cross the road, turn right and go to the furthermost bus stop you can see. Bus number 22 can take you to Areeiro square (Praça do Areeiro) where the hostel is located. During the night, you can take bus number 208 instead. You can buy your ticket on board from the driver for € 1,50. In order to avoid missing your destination, you can ask the driver to tell you when the bus arrives at Areeiro square. The following map shows the location of bus stops near the hostel:

Also note that in case you carry a lot of luggage, the bus driver may refuse to take you on board. In that case, you will need to take a taxi.

By Taxi

There is a taxi stand just in front of the exit from the arrivals hall. You can take a taxi yourself, or you can buy a taxi voucher inside the arrivals hall (safer option). The price of  the voucher to Areeiro square is € 14,61 during the day and € 17,53 at night. The office is open from 7 AM till 24 PM every day. The personel will take you to your taxi and you won't have to deal with the taxi driver about money at all.

Commuting between the hostel and university campus

The airport and hostel are located on the north bank of the Tagus River, while the university campus is located on the south bank. The most convenient way to reach the campus by public transport is to use take a train to Pragal and then take a surface metro to the university.

Train from Areeiro to Pragal and back. The following map shows how to walk from the hostel to the train station.

You can buy your ticket in a vending machine at the train station. The ticket is recorded on a rechargeable card which costs € 0,50. Each single ticket costs € 1,70. You then need to check in with your card before entering the train. The journey takes 17 minutes and the train runs with this schedule and in the opposite direction with this schedule.

Surface metro from Pragal to University and back. The ticket can be bought from vending machines at the surface metro platform. You will need the same rechargeable card for this again. However, the card cannot have to different kinds of tickets charged on it at the same time. You should be able to use the same card for both train and metro tickets in case you always use up all the tickets of one kind before charging tickets of the other kind. the price of each metro ticket is € 0,85. In the full surface metro schedule, look for Line 3, stations Pragal and Universidade.

The workshop takes place in the campus library. This map shows the position of the surface metro station relative to the library and canteens in the campus.
