During several years there has been a large investment in
data collection and storage, both in small businesses and
large firms. Data Warehousing provides memory to
enterprises but also to industries and scientific domains.
Memory of past experiences provides a base for learning,
helping to diminish uncertainty and yielding results to
support decisions.
In the EKDB&W workshop, both the
discussion of technical issues and the presentation of
applications will help to increase the experience in the
domain of extracting useful and non-trivial information
from large databases and data warehouses. The presentations
will hopefully bridge the gap between research and
practice, improving both. Invitation to industrial partners
will help to project the socio-economic importance of AI.
EKDB&W is part of 12th Portuguese Conference on
Artificial Intelligence - EPIA 2005, sponsored by
APPIA, the Portuguese Association
of AI. EKDB&W follows successful workshops
EKDB-03, EKDB-01, EKDB-99, EKDB-97. The 2005 edition
also intends to serve as a meeting-point for the
researchers and professionals working in the areas of
EKDB&W, namely in Data
Warehousing, Database
Marketing, Data Mining,
Data Analysis and Decision
Support.
